Senior Scientist / Principal Scientist, Biophysics
About Treeline
Treeline Biosciences is a new biotechnology company, founded by an experienced team of biopharmaceutical scientists and executives, committed to developing new medicines against difficult to drug targets in cancer and other life-threatening diseases. We are pursuing a uniquely integrated approach that applies modern and emerging tools in genomics, lead discovery, medicinal chemistry, and computation to reduce the time and risks of drug discovery.
About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated protein enthusiast with a passion for developing fit for purpose biophysical assays to characterize protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions to join our team. This dynamic position will play an important role in driving Treeline’s portfolio by developing biophysical assays to generate key decision-making data. In this project facing role, you will collaborate closely with and learn from Treeline’s medicinal and computational chemists, biologists, biochemists, structural biologists, biophysicists, and data scientists to enable the forward progress of drug discovery programs.
About you
You are self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced and matrixed drug discovery environment requiring scientific curiosity and rigor coupled with a strong collaborative nature. Armed with a can-do attitude, you understand the scientific question at hand and apply the best techniques to quickly get to an answer. You are a team player and a critical thinker who appreciates multidisciplinary collaborations and tackling scientific challenges to advance projects.
Responsibilities
- Integrate into hit-finding and drug discovery cascades to support hit identification, hit-to-lead, and lead optimization campaigns.
- Build a variety of biophysical assays to identify, validate, and characterize small molecule ligand and protein target interactions. Strong focus on developing and executing critical direct binding assays as primary or orthogonal drug discovery workstreams.
- In collaboration with project teams, establish SAR to rapidly drive lead optimization.
- Develop novel solutions, design and implement new techniques and strategies to study protein binding interactions and enable mechanistic studies to determine the mode-of-action for validated hits.
- Represent Lead Discovery and Biophysics at the project team level and be a hands-on mentor for junior scientists.
Qualifications
- M.S./PhD in Biophysics, Biochemistry or related discipline
- 3-5+ years of experience in the biotech/pharma industry with a track record of hit-finding, hit-to-lead, and lead optimization to deliver small molecule development candidates
- Industry experience is required for this role, however candidates with less than 3-5+ years of experience that demonstrate an outstanding record of understanding and successful application of a variety of decision-making biophysical methods will be considered.
- A strong working understanding of theory and hands on assay development for a variety of biophysical methods and a demonstration of the know-how of where to apply them. Methods include but are not limited to, SPR, BLI, ITC, DSF, MST, NMR, and Mass Spectrometry.
- Direct experience in working with and characterizing challenging targets.
- Experience collaborating with CROs and managing external activities.
- Experience managing junior scientists is a plus.
- Excellent organization and presentation skills that enhance team-based delivery of results.
- Ability to work effectively and deliver results within timelines and to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment.
