About the role
As an analytical chemist you will work with a dynamic multi-disciplinary team composed of medicinal chemists, computational chemists, biologists, and structural biologists focused on discovering therapeutics of transformational efficacy potential (primarily in areas of oncology of unmet medical needs). You will contribute to build the infrastructure and provide the analytical support needed for our drug discovery programs run from the Watertown, MA site. The candidate will work closely with chemistry/biology/ADME labs to help maintain and run analytical instrumentation (including open access instrumentation). You will also oversee analytical chemistry-focused CRO collaborations.
Resident expert for all analytical chemistry needs for the Watertown, MA site.
Responsible for all analytical activities in chemistry and CRO collaborations (e.g., QC validation, method development, analytical strategy tailored to project needs/chemical series, compound characterization).
Contribute to build and reduce to practice an infrastructure plan (and associated CRO resources) to support analytical needs of multiple drug discovery programs (from compound purification to implementation of analytical methods to support project needs).
Ensure smooth day-to-day operation of the suite of analytical instruments.
Manage associated analytical chemistry-focused CRO.
Provide structural characterization of drug substance molecules (e.g., NMR, HPLC and MS).
Provide purification support for both singleton / array of compounds on small scale and intermediates / lead molecules on preparative scale.
Provides training to colleagues as needed.
BS/BA degree in chemistry or closely related field and 5+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry required, focusing on analytical chemistry; or MS or Ph.D. with focus on analytical chemistry with 2+ year drug discovery industry experience.
Demonstrated positive impact on preclinical portfolio delivery through analytical chemistry expertise.
Experience running day-to-day operation and troubleshooting of open access instruments (e.g., NMR, LCMS).
Experience with contemporary suite of analytical instruments used in drug discovery and associated softwares.
Expertise in purification of singletons and array of compounds on small scale to support rapid SAR campaigns.
Expertise in purification of compounds on a preparatory scale (50g+).
Experience managing interactions with an analytical chemistry-focused CRO is a plus.
